I’ll tell you something.

Friday, February 29th, 2008

As I continue my quest of becoming a know-it-all, I’ve developed a workshop centered around making artist books/minicomics for the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.

Minicomics as Artist Books
with Will Dinski
Mondays: March 24, 31, April 7, 14
6-9pm

If you’re interested go here to register. Because if you don’t, there won’t be a class and I’ll have some free time on my hands. And I get in trouble when I have too much free time. So keep me off the streets AND learn about book arts.I’ve a BFA in this stuff, you know.

I made a whole slew of books this weekend. 160 of them will be for the Lutefisk Sushi show this spring. More details later …

Peanuts

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

I finally finished reading the Charles Schulz biography by David Michaelis. There’s been a lot said and written about this book and its supposedly fudging of the details. However, I won’t give any caveats when I say that this was an eye-opening read.

The most interesting thing I learned was just how autobiographical Peanuts was. Between Michaelis’ examples and simply reading the Complete Peanuts books that correspond to passages written in the biography, I was amazed by how much of himself Schulz put into that strip.

After reading this biography, whatever else that will be written about Charles Schulz’s life will first and foremost be held up against Schulz’s own account of it through his art.

As an aside, here are some Peanuts strips that I had pasted in my college sketchbook. I always laugh when I reread them:
