A Letter Home

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Dear Mom,

Sorry but I can’t make it to church this Thanksgiving. My church here in Minneapolis needs volunteers for their soup kitchen. As always, you and Dad and little Sammy will be in my prayers. Please say hello to Pastor Nelson for me.

Guess what! My prayers have been answered. I have one of my comic book graphic novel drawings published in a real magazine! It’s true. The story is called The Pressman, and I’ve included a copy just for you. The esteemed magazine is called Other Magazine and it’s available somewhere on the east cost, I think.

You’ll notice it has a very brightly colored female football player on the cover. She better look out! I think she’s going to be tackled! Oh No!

Hey, show it to Dad. He loves that stuff.

God Bless,
-William

In Their Honor

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

This Saturday the Stevens Square Center For Arts is having its member show opening. Seeing as I’m a member and had the extra money for the $10 application fee, my work will be included in the show. The picture is of the wall my new short story The Pressman will hang. I say “will hang” because it’s not quite ready yet. However, I assure you it will be ready in time to honor those who have fought for our country. Yes, Saturday is Veteran’s Day. And if you’re looking for some way to pay respect to those fine citizens who served their country well, I can think of nothing better than going to an art opening, drinking wine, and reading a short comic about a man who works nights at a printing press.

In reality there are a half dozen better ways, but you should stop by anyway. It’s not like you actually do anything for Veteran’s Day. We should. But we don’t.

Secret Blog—Exposed!

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

This blog page is the new replacement for the News page formally on willdinski.com. You’ll notice that there is a back log of about a month already. That’s because this was formally a … SECRET BLOG. I thought I would give the blogging a test drive before incorporating it into willdinski.com. Well, here it is. Yup.

I’ll be posting mostly artwork with the occasional rant or newsworthy item. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Is Heavenly Perfection Too Much To Ask For?

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Like finishing a really long novel, filling a sketchbook from cover to cover provides a certain sense of accomplishment. This time, I’ve filled the often praised Moleskine sketchbook. You remember, the ones reportedly used by Van Gogh, Hemingway, Neal Armstrong, Jesus, and every president since John Adams except for Richard Nixon. I hear he used a Strathmore.

It is a nice little book. A perfect amount of pages. Fits like a glove in my back pocket for easy travel. It also has a pocket in the back for … well I don’t really use that pocket, but it’s nice that it’s there I guess. However, the pages are very thin which discourages drawing on both sides of the paper. Also, at about the halfway point through the book suddenly the pages are perforated. Why? Now I have to be extra careful none of my drawings just “fall” out of my sketchbook which could happen when you’re carrying the thing in your back pocket all day.

I know—I know. I’m never going to find a nice sketchbook to settle down with if I keep nit-picking every single one I spend any time with. You don’t have to tell me that I’m the only one to have any criticisms of the moleskine.
